Where did this guy come from?

Watched a couple of good DVD's on Netflix over the past few weekends.  While I was a bit underwhelmed by "Miss Pettigrew Lives for a Day", I was very happy to discover a little film called, "Dear Frankie".  It's about a young mother and her hearing impaired son.  The father was abusive and so they escaped and are on the run.  However, she tells the boy that the father is off sailing on a ship and she writes letters to the boy pretending to be the father.  Unfortunately for her, the ship he is supposedly on is going to be coming back to the town, so she hires a stranger to be the father for a day.  You can kind of guess what happens.  Still, despite its predictability, it's a wonderful independent film, Scottish, with a delightful cast.

All I can say about the guy who plays the stranger is, why haven't I ever seen or heard of Gerard Butler before?  My gawd, he's gorgeous, and a very compelling actor.  So, I discovered that he was also in PS, I Love You, which was already in my queue.  I saw that one last night, and while that was a "so-so" film, it's really hard not to be smitten by Gerard Butler.

The other film I watched, and liked, was "A Lot Like Love" with Ashton Kutcher and Amanda Peet.  Some hilarious scenes.

Hi Aquarius; Thank you so much for this very nice review about actor Gerard Butler. I had to chuckle when I read your coments however. It seems you may be coming late in the career of this remarkable actor. Even though not all of the films he's made are great, (what actor's are?) the work he does in them usually is. Did you miss Phantom of the Opera, 300, Attila, Tomb Raider: The Cradle of life, Timeline, Nim's Island, Dracla 2000, The Cherry Orchard, Her Majesty Mrs. Brown, etc. etc.? Gerry has dozens of fan clubs all over the world. The largest and most complete one is:

http://www.gerardbutler.net/

And the fan form at:

http://gerardbutlerglobalfans.com/index.php?act=idx

Gerry is known as one of the nicest guys in the business who treats his fans and friends like gold. Having met him, I've found him to be a "big puppy dog" who is warm, fun, and funny.
So if you haven't seen the other films, by all means treat yourself to them. As I said, they may not all be great movies, but watching Gerry in any one of them is a treat.

Aloha Dorothy! Thanks for leaving a comment. Of the films you listed, I have seen Mrs. Brown, and the first Lara Croft Tomb Raider film, but not the rest. Guess I wasn't paying attention. ;) It's nice to know that he's a such a good guy, and you were indeed lucky to meet him! Take care.

Ms. Aquarius.... your not the only one who has not heard of Mr. Gerard James Butler! That's because our dear Mr. Butler is not in this acting business for the fame or the fortune! He's acting because he loves it and because of that he happens to work on films that aren't real big hits, but feel big to him. Gerard Butler is a very passionate, intelligent, caring, kind hearted man who got a second chance at life and went for his dream of acting. If you would like to know more about this beautiful man that you caught a glimpse of in Dear Frankie, go to;

There are over 14,000 of us fans, we call ourselves 'TARTS'! The man himself hates papparazzi, but will go out of his way for us fans, signing autographs, taking pics and just chatting with us. I was very lucky to have met him at his new movie Nim's Island March 30th 2008 starring alongside of Abigail Breslin and Jodie Foster.

Some movies I think you should check out with netflix are:

Phantom Of The Opera
Dracula 2000 (check out the audition scenes in this one, wow!)
Attila
The Jury (British series)
300 (king leonidas)
Tomb Raider 2

Check out those movies and let me know what you think. I've loved Phantom Of The Opera since I was 8, so when I found out it was a movie I had to check out who was going to be Phantom..... Gerry, as he likes to be called, caught my attention right then and there. I fell in love during Attila though! This man, Gerard Butler, has something that just leaves you in a trance and speechless during his movies! He's soo intense and so into character, sometimes he can change his look so much that you don't realize it's him. That's part of the reason people have not heard of him is because he changes so much with his characters and doesn't stick to one genre in the movie world! He does whatever feels right to him and if it's a success then great, if not... no big deal, move onto the next movie. We also have conventions in his name. We've had two conventions in glasgow scotland, and so far 2 in america. He donates clothes, autographs, and other stuff for auction and whatever money we get for those items are sent off to a charity close to Gerry's heart, Kids Kicking Cancer! At each convention, we usually raise over 30,000 thousand dollars.

Please check the website out and let us all know how you liked those movies I suggested to you. take care and thanks for writing such a positive review on our man! He's the best!

Sincerely,

Hi Andrea, thanks so much for your comment. I look forward to learning more about Gerry's film career. He sounds like a very special man, but then, you can tell that from his performance in Dear Frankie, can't you?

So, you have just entered the Butler zone. He really is a marvelous actor and a wonderful human being. He is extremely intelligent, kind and talented. When you've read more about him, you'll be even more impressed. And most definitely you should check out "Phantom of the Opera", "300", and "The Jury". There are lots of others and three more due out next year. Google him at gb.net and get prepared. As an extra, he's also verra, verra funny. Check out his visits on Jay Leno.

Hi Aquarius! Don't forget to check out YouTube for zillions of both fan videos and videos of his appearances on The Tonight Show, Craig Ferguson, Ellen, etc. He is a funny, funny guy outside of acting and, well....the other comments here have pretty said much of the rest about the guy. Go for it! You're now one of many other women totally enthralled with Gerry!

Here I was ready to share my insight on this fine actor and all these other people beat me to it. Ah well...

I was like you in that I saw a film he was in that sparked an interest in his other work. I think you will find that some of the projects he has been involved with may be lacking in one way or another, but his work continues to be remarkable. Enjoy.

Aquarius, I was late to the game too, so to speak. My daughter Shannon, age 15, introduced me to him in "Phantom" last year, and I've been hooked ever since.

Yes, there are some not-so-great vehicles he's been in, but he always shines no matter what!

Ooh, it looks like you've been got with the folks who love to search for Gerard Butler! I was going to call it the Alan Rickman Effect, but you posted way before I did, so maybe it's the Gerard Butler Effect! Or the Damn-Fine British or Irish Actor effect...

I feel almost compelled to put in my email address now...

Hi Depresso! Good to hear from you. Let it be known that I also find Alan Rickman mesmerizing. He has the most beautiful voice.
